Named for the historic red-light district of New Orleans, Storyville Records was set up by Danish jazz and blues enthusiast Karl Emil Knudsen in 1950. Reissues from many legendary American jazz artists – including Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong – appeared on the label. Storyville expanded its celebration of jazz and blues through live recordings of jazzmen touring in Europe and Scandinavia. Acquired by Wise Music Group when Edition Wilhelm Hansen took it over in 2005, today Storyville continues to build its impressive catalogue through authoritative releases of contemporary jazz artists.Visit Storyville Records
Old Town Records
Old Town Records was founded in 1953 in New York by Hy Weiss and was active until 1966. The label produced doo wop and blues, R&B, rock & roll, and soul bands landing their first hit in 1958 with "We Belong Together" by Robert & Johnny with further hits by Billy Bland, The Solitaires, The Capris and The Earls. Wise Music became the proud owner of the label with control of both the master and publishing on these classic hits.
Wise Music Records
The most recent label to join the Group, Wise Records was set up by Marcus Wise and launched in June 2022. With a clear focus on legendary and contemporary reggae, its first two releases were the masterpiece Mango Walk by multi-instrumentalist Clive Hunt (The In Crowd, Azul, Lizard), and Dennis Brown’s roots classic Milk and Honey (which was accompanied by a limited edition white label vinyl release). Currently distributed by Proper Music in the UK, Wise Records has a number of exciting reissues planned for 2023 and beyond.
