WORLD PREMIERE: Impermanence by Bryce Dessner
16th February 2021
On February 16, Impermanence, the latest dance work by Bryce Dessner and Sydney Dance Company will have it’s world premiere at the Roslyn Packer Theatre in Sydney, Australia – running to 27 February 2021. A visceral and thrilling exploration of the juxtaposition of beauty and devastation, Dessner’s score draws inspiration from the tragic fires in the Australian bush and Notre-Dame Cathedral.
Australian String Quartet, joint co-commissioners, will perform the score live on stage with the vocals of Academy-Award-nominated and Mercury-Prize-winner Anohni.
Just days before the original date of world premiere of Impermanence, in March 2020, with the unfolding global pandemic, the painful but necessary cancellation of the impending season was undertaken. During the remainder of 2020, the decision to turn Impermanence into a full-length work was made, with Dessner composing the remainder of the score. This exciting outcome is a testament to the commitment and hard work of everyone working on this project in bringing Impermanence to the stage.
Read Artistic Director Rafael Bonachela’s interview as he talks about the inspiration for the work, his approach to the choreography and the long-awaited 2021 world premiere.
