Biography

David Rodriguez was born in the Canary Islands, Spain, to a Spanish father and Australian mother and grew up there, moving to Canberra, Australia as a teenager. He went to the Australian National University School of Music and completed a Bachelors of Jazz Performance on guitar and Masters in Jazz Performance.

Moving to Sydney after music school, David Rodriguez first stepped onto the international scene under the artist name “GODRIGUEZ” as the producer and creative force behind Sampa The Great's breakthrough release "The Great Mixtape", acting as musical director for Sampa the Great at festivals such as Splendour In The Grass and Laneway and played supports for Kendrick Lamar, Fat Freddy's Drop among others as well as solo Godriguez sets including supporting Hiatus Kaiyote at Somerset House in London. 

Godriguez released his debut LP in 2018 entitled “Vol.1 ’14- 18”. A 35 minute selection collected from 7 beat-tapes of over 6 hours worth of released beattapes; Created over 4 years. Compiled from musical obsessions spanning across Cuban religious music, neo classical, West African, jazz, Polynesian, flamenco and classical Egyptian music- David’s preoccupation with traditional music forms from across the world being the constant thread. 

In 2017 David formed his 5 piece project called GODTET and has released 6 records performing several times at the Sydney Opera House and Vivid festivals.

David continues to write and perform music under GODRIGUEZ and with his band project GODTET, whilst being a producer and musical director for other artists.
