Le nouvel album de Bernard Lavilliers, Rite Cruel, se hisse à la 1ère place du Top Album en France
5th November 2026
Bernard Lavilliers’ album Rite Cruel shot to number one in the French Top Albums chart in its very first week of release at the end of October, thereby confirming the artist’s status as an intergenerational icon! The news of this number one position was immediately celebrated by Lavilliers and his fanbase as a powerful symbol of loyalty, as he approaches his 80th birthday.
Over 9,590 albums have already been sold!
This puts the spotlight on the content of this project, unanimously described as socially conscious, evocative and powerful!
The album has also struck a chord with audiences in Belgium and Switzerland:
Belgium (Wallonia): The album made a sensational debut, entering the Ultrapop Top Albums chart at number 5.
Switzerland: Buoyed by his loyal fanbase, the album has firmly established itself at number 9 in the Swiss overall charts.
The album, whose title is an anagram of the word ‘écriture’ (writing), comprises 12 tracks. True to form, Bernard Lavilliers wrote all the lyrics (with the exception of one historical poem), but has surrounded himself with a close-knit circle of renowned composers and musicians; the composition and arrangements feature multi-instrumentalist Fred Pallem, long-standing drummer Michaël Lapie, as well as Xavier Tribolet and Georges Baux. Victor Le Masne (who excelled on the Olympic Games projects) brings his expertise in keyboards and modern structures to part of the album. And the tracks ‘Soño’ and ‘Rio no inverno’ were created in collaboration with the Brazilian musician Ricardo Vilas, continuing the tradition of travel so dear to Lavilliers.
