Celebrated UK composer Matt Emery is back with his new EP ‘Spotlight Series: Harp’ released digitally on March 11th via Matreya Records. ‘Spotlight Series: Harp’ is the second in Emery’s Spotlight Series which showcases one instrument at a time (following 2021 release ‘Spotlight Series: Cello’ on Injazero Records). This EP’s sees Emery’s compositions being performed by recent Royal Philharmonic Trailblazer Award Winner Olivia Jageurs. Olivia’s recently played on records for Voces8, Jess Gillham and Steven Isserlis and has performed for BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra and Max Richter as part of the 12 Ensemble. The EP was mixed by long term collaborator James Kenosha known for his work with Rhodes & Mikky Ekko. Artwork was created by Fulmar Illustration.
The five tracks all take their titles from water-based themes.
Lead single, ‘W for Waves’, is made up of layers and loops of harp phrases and like its name each loop acts like a new wave entering the piece, with lead lines, arpeggios, staccato bass lines, trills and flourishes. The track builds into a complete wash of harp euphoria containing 8 layers of harp ending in real waves recorded in Brighton after Emery’s first post lockdown venture out of London in the Summer of 2020.
London and Surrey based composer Emery’s debut album 'Empire’ was released on Injazero Records in 2017 to widespread acclaim, receiving praise from the likes of BBC Radio 1, Radio 6, KEXP, Radio X to XLR8R, Clash Mag and The Ransom Note. After selling out his debut headline show at St Pancras Old Church further performances at venues including The Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall and Purcell Room, Union Chapel (being championed by Daylight Music) and Neue! Step Festival in Istanbul with Nils Frahm and Peter Broderick. Further EP and Single releases have also seen support from BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio Ulster, BBC Introducing, Headphone Commute, Stationary Travels and Self-titled Mag. His music has been heard by millions through its usage in film and television across channels such as BBC, ITV, Netflix, Sky, AMC, HBO, DIY and Discovery, with custom and soundtrack work receiving global press from the likes of Dazed, Cosmopolitan, CNN News, Microsoft News, Hype Bae and many more
