Philipp Johann Thimm

Biografie

Philipp Johann Thimm, born in Krumbach in 1987, is a versatile German musician based in Berlin. He began his musical journey studying new music under Hans-Peter Schulz before delving into cello with Hartmut Tröndle at the Leopold Mozart Conservatory in Augsburg. In 2009, he co-founded the Berlin alternative band Abby, which garnered international recognition with releases on Universal Music/Island Records and global tours. Since relocating to Berlin in 2010, Thimm has become a prominent figure in the music scene, contributing as a studio instrumentalist, producer, and arranger for numerous artists including Ellen Allien, Moderat, and Pan-Pot.

The Berlin-based musician, composer, and producer, has engaged in diverse musical projects, including collaborations with Sascha Ring (Apparat), theatre, art installations, and film soundtracks. They were nominated for a Grammy in 2019 for "Best Electronic Album" with Apparat's "LP5." He also composed for the famous german TV show Tatort.
