Biography
Dirk Maassen is a German composer and pianist living in Ulm, Germany. He has played piano since the age of 10 and studied a broad variety of musical styles in his early musical career. In the 1980s he was member of several bands and projects and started some experimental cross genre productions experimenting with different styles. In the 1990s Dirk toured with his band ‘In Contact’ and released 2 CDs both with them and his other project ‘Unknown Vision’. In 2011 he started playing concerts as solo pianist. Dirk Maassen’s compositions and works have been featured in several film projects so far including the movie "Crossroads" (directed by Katie Smith) which won several awards at Cannes Film festival in 2015.
His album, Avalanche, was released in 2018 and produced with Lorenz Dangel (winner of the official German Film Award ‘Deutscher Filmpreis’) and Deutsches Filmorchester Babelsberg. ‘Avalanche’ contains unique minimal solo piano works as well as epic symphonic pieces such as ‘Helios’, ‘Avalanche’ and ‘Allewind’. The singles ‘Gravity’, ‘Eclipse’ and ‘Falling Stars’ have been streamed millions of times each.
In 2020, Dirk released his album "Ocean" on Sony Classical. The following year, Maassen released the album "Echoes". In 2022, Dirk Maassen released the album "Time" and composed music for the Original Motion Picture "Schattenkind", that was released in 2023.
