Biography
dery roams planet earth creating audio fictions exploring memories, histories, and stories from our collective consciousness. She writes and co-produces sonic narrative anthologies intended to be experienced like a novel - blending indie-pop and folk into an immersive soundscape. Raised between New York and Hamburg, dery’s music extends beyond personal experience, uncovers deeper meanings and reflects the world around her.
Her debut album chapter one (2019), produced by Doug Yowell (Suzanne Vega, Duncan Sheik), consists of a genre-blending album exploring themes of heartbreak, indecision, assault, and societal challenges. For this project she collaborated with world-renowned musicians such as Will Lee (Barry Manilow, Cher, Carly Simon) and Kevin Bents (Spin Doctors, Westernhagen) in New York. When the pandemic left her stranded in Germany in 2020, she then collaborated with producer Felix Gerlach (Max Giesinger, Tonbandgerät, Enno Bunger) to record chapter two (2022), influenced by her childhood as a "third culture kid" and fourth-wave feminism. Following its success, she and Gerlach recorded chapter three (2023), a second exploration in indie-pop production, also supported by government grants from Initiative Musik.
In 2023, dery collaborated with Jon Seale (Son of Cloud) to compose music for an interactive dance performance created for choreographer Larkin Poynton. It has since been performed in Tokyo, Singapore, and Seoul, where dery and Jon played live alongside 15 local dancers. Beyond her own projects, dery has written for other artists such as Caroline Chevin, Maia Onda, Tim Schou and Luke Sital-Singh - and has herself collaborated on tracks with Colin Smith, Kicker Dibs, Cellito, Eli Pafumi, Son of Cloud and Daphne Gale.
dery's music is published by Bosworth (Wise Music Group) and has been featured in international playlists such as Spotify's Fresh Finds and Indie Pop, as well as gained an NPR Tiny Desk Top Shelf nomination in 2021. Radio stations like FluxFM and KCRW, and magazines such as DIY Mag, Earmilk and Wonderland, have already covered her work. In November 2024 she supported Phil Siemers on tour in Germany, followed by a tour with Ariel Posen across Canada in March of 2025. In August 2025 she performed a residency with a string trio at the TonArten Festival in Sasbachwalden and appeared as a guest on Pohlmann's Nachtschicht in Hamburg.
With chapter two, chapter three, and her live solo EP chapter three footnotes (2024), she has established herself as a prolific, distinctive voice. In 2025, dery released new singles monthly – five tracks recorded with various producers in NYC and Los Angeles. Building on that momentum, in April 2026 she then released a duet EP with bassist Kaveh Rastegar (Sia, Bruno Mars, John Legend) called Buried to Build, consisting of five tracks written and recorded together in LA. With each release she raises the bar for those who seek in music a place of closeness and comfort.
dery holds a Bachelor of Arts from The New School in Manhattan, where she studied music, photography, poetry, and gender studies. She currently lives between the USA and Berlin.
