Biographie
Annika Henderson (D/GB), born 1987 in Woking, England, is a hybrid artist. The former journalist made a name for herself in the electronic music scene, with her experimental sound collages and unique way of performing live solo.
None other than Geoff Barrow of the band Portishead took her under his wing, inviting her to accompany his band Beak>, as singer. This quickly transformed into its own project and in 2010, Barrow and Beak> produced her first album, “Anika”, providing her with her initial breakthrough. Since then, she has collaborated with a number of renowned musicians, artists, film-makers and poets, among them: Jandek, Tricky, Shackleton, Michael Rother (Neu!), Dave Clarke (Skint BMG), PBDY (Brainfeeder), Melanie Jame Wolf, Dierector Rainer Kohlberger (It Has To Be Lived Once And Dreamed Twice, 2019), SYNY, Shackleton, Ensemble Kaleidoskop (“Desertshor”' @ Radial System. 2020), Gudrun Gut (Monika Werkstatt 2021), Philipp Geist (Live Light installations in Teheran, IR. 2015), Coder Raoul Sanders/A.I (The Writing Robot. 2017), T.Raumschmiere, Michael Rother (Neu!), Andreas Reihse of Kreidler, Doireann O‘Malley, Ricardo Domeneck, and Yann Tiersen. In 2015, she formed the band Exploded View (Sacred Bones) in Mexico City. She also collaborated with fashion Labels Jil Sander und Chanel.
Henderson operates as a poet, composer, musician, DJ, photographer, radio host and film-maker. Boldly, she weaves through the disciplines, as if it were one of her poems. Her breakthrough came in 2010 with the release of the cult-hit, experimental LP, “Anika” (Stones Throw /Invada), which she recorded with Geoff Barrow (Portishead) and his band Beak>, the most known and synced song of which, is her cover of The Kinks “I Go To Sleep”. 2020 saw a collaboration with the trip-hop legend, Tricky, as well as with Brit-punk rebels, ILIKETRAINS. Eleven years after her debut album Annika Henderson released “Change” her second solo album.
