New single and album announcement from Anoushka Shankar
17th janvier 2025
Anoushka Shankar, the acclaimed sitar player, producer and composer, has confirmed details of the third and final instalment of the trilogy of mini-albums she began with Chapter I: Forever, For Now in October 2023, and followed by the GRAMMY-nominated Chapter II: How Dark it Is Before Dawn in April 2024. Chapter III: We Return To Light will be released by LEITER on vinyl and via all digital platforms on the 14th March 2025, supported initially by an extensive tour of North America with further territories later in the year.
Central to Chapter III is the mindfulness of India at the root of all of Anoushka's music, with nods to her studies in indian classical music and her later fascination with Goa Trance. Across each of the mini-albums Anoushka has worked with a different producer, with the responsibility of this installment's production falling to London-based, Indian multi-instrumentalist Sarathy Korwar, one of the most original and compelling voices in the British jazz scene. The third key collborator on the album is composer and sarod player Alam Khan, son of the famed Indian classical guru, Ali Akbar Khan.
To mark the announcement of the album, Anoushka has also released the first single, Hiraeth, which features looping melodies and backwards sarod lines, an idea seeded by Khan and developed with Korwar and Shankar. For keen listeners, it features an Easter egg in the form of Raga Palas Kafi, created by Ravi Shankar.
