Guy Béart

Biographie

Born in Egypt and raised in Lebanon, Guy Béart chose to pursue a career in engineering in 1952, in order to help support his family after his father passed away. However, he studied violin and mandolin in parallel, played guitar and sang in the cabaret circuit.

Under the wing of famous music producer Jacques Canetti and fellow musician Boris Vian, he released his debut album in 1957, which won the prestigious Grand Prix de l'Académie du Disque français.

His biggest hit came the next year when he wrote the soundtrack of the motion picture, L’Eau vive (Girl and the River), which would become a classic of French Chanson.

He then started to be demanded for his writing talents and he notably composed the song Il n’y a plus d’après for Juliette Gréco in 1960

Guy Béart is the father of actress Emmanuelle Béart, known for her role in Manon des Sources (1986) or Mission: Impossible (1996) and for her involvement as Unicef ambassador.
